About the Fellowship

Training outstanding allergy and immunology clinicians, educators and translational investigators.

The allergy and immunology fellowship offered by the Division of Allergy and Immunology at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine was founded by Dr. Stephen I. Wasserman (past ABAI President and former Chair of Medicine at UCSD) in 1979 and is a multifaceted program that offers comprehensive training in adult and pediatric allergy and immunology. The program also has strong collaborations with the  allied disciplines of rheumatology, otolaryngology, pulmonary medicine and dermatology, as well as numerous diverse research opportunities with world-class faculty mentors at UC San Diego, Rady Children’s Hospital, Kaiser, Veterans Affairs, La Jolla Institute of Immunology, Scripps and other institutions.

The program is a minimum of two years in duration, with 12 months of clinical activities and 12 months of scholarly and research activities. A third-year is recommended for fellows pursuing enhanced research experiences and/or developing academic careers. Clinical and research time are consistent with the requirements for training in allergy and immunology as set forth by the ACGME and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (50% clinical, 25% research and 25% education).
